Bij het woord 'jutten' droom je over het algemeen van het verzamelen van aangespoelde spullen. Een kist scheepsbeschuit, een vat whisky of een broodje hasj: het is weer eens wat anders dan de obligate chocomel-met-slagroom.
Maar wat moet je nou met aangewaaide spullen? Op de zuidpunt van Texel vonden we afgelopen week deze tros ballonnen, die blijkbaar vanuit Engeland is komen aanwaaien. Nu heb ik niks met ballonnen. Bovendien is het wat lastig meenemen, zo'n grote tros. Maar het is toch ook lullig voor de eigenaar, die zich daar in Engeland waarschijnlijk het schompes loopt te zoeken.
Dus heb ik eens uitgezocht van wie de ballonnen zijn. Dat was eenvoudig te achterhalen: ze zijn afkomstig van de firma ScS, een meubelboer in Tyne & Wear. Omdat ik de lulligste niet ben heb ik ze maar een mailtje gestuurd:
Dear sir, madam,
Last week, while walking at the southernmost point of the Frisian island of Texel, I stumbled into a bunch of balloons that would appear to belong to your company. I must assume the balloons have escaped from your custody during your hectic Boxing Day sale, drifted across the North Sea and lost their way. Under normal circumstances it would have been my pleasure to return them safely to Tyne & Wear. Unfortunately, I was carrying only a 45 l. rucksack at the time and it proved impossible to deflate the balloons without causing them severe harm.
If you are looking to retrieve your balloons, I'd be happy to show you to the location where they were last seen. It's at the top of the dunes, where the Kreeftenpolder meets the North Sea shore.
